Prayers to St. Michael the Archangel

Novena Prayer to St Michael

Saint Michael the Archangel, loyal champion of God and His people, I turn to you with confidence and seek your powerful intercession. For the love of God, Who made you so glorious in grace and power, and for the love of the Mother of Jesus, the Queen of the Angels, be pleased to hear my prayer. You know the value of my soul in the eyes of God. May no stain of evil ever disfigure its beauty. Help me to conquer the evil spirits that tempt me. I desire to imitate your loyalty to God and Holy Mother Church and your great love for God and people. And since you are God's messenger for the care of His people, I entrust to you this special request: (mention your request)

St. Michael, since you are, by the will of the Creator, the powerful intercessor of Christians, I have great confidence in your prayers. I earnestly trust that if it is God's holy will, my petition will be granted.

Pray for me St. Michael, and also for those I love. Protect us in all dangers of body and soul. Help us in our daily needs. Through your powerful intercession, may we live a holy life, die a happy death and reach heaven where we may praise and love God with you forever. Amen

In thanksgiving to God for the graces bestowed on St. Michael: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen

Saint Michael the Archangel by Stephen B. Whatley

St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel - Painted in 2010 by Artist Stephen B Whatley - Flickr Photo Sharing!

Commentary by Loci B. Lenar

The bright colors in the new painting by Stephen B. Whatley represent the mighty power of God and His authority working through Archangel Michael. The novena to St. Michael is a reminder of God's faithfulness in helping people during times of adversity.

The painting of Archangel Michael and the following information is from Stephen's website:

Saint Michael the Archangel - a new tribute painted by Stephen B Whatley on St Michael's Feast Day (September 29) and completed on the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi. (October 4).

Saint Michael is seen as the Warrior Angel, fighting off Satan in heaven and protecting God's chosen people on earth from evil and enemies. St Michael occupies a special place in the church, appointed its protector; and his Intercession is encouraged to defeat the evil in the world - and for the protection from danger for anyone in their every day life.

"...as ever I prayed deeply for the strength and insight to express the power of St Michael; and while I looked at a variety of historic interpretations, this painting had its beginnings in my memory of the flickering flame that rose above a candle embossed with the image of St Michael, the evening before as my nervous and creative energy was building in praparation and determination to create this new tribute. Brushstrokes of warm yellows were felt from my heart; from where the defiant but graceful face of St Michael the Archangel would emerge.

I truly felt guided to paint a humble cross within his hand as his 'shield' - which maybe symbolises the power of faith, however big or small."

Singular prayers can be asked of St Michael; or 9 day prayers (Novenas) as below.

Spiritual Locution: A Message from Jesus

Photograph by Loci B. Lenar

Signs, Wonders, and Miracles - Spiritual Locution of Septmber 14, 2009

By Loci B. Lenar

Through a spiritual locution I received on September 14, 2009, Jesus called for everyone to believe in the Word of God and to "pray for divine protection."  The locution from Jesus was a result of my visit to the Church of Saint Michael in Netcong, New Jersey. Through prayerful discernment, I believe the Lord's plan is to mitigate and extinguish violence throughout the world in order to usher in an era of peace.

The spiritual locution is connected to Revelation 20:1-3, A Thousand Year-Reign of God's Peace and also to Our Lady of Fatima's message. I would suggest reading the biblical prophecy for further insight on the matter.

Our Lady of Fatima spoke of an era of peace during her apparitions to three shepherd children in 1917. For additional information about Our Lady's message, please visit the World Apostolate of Fatima, USA.

In Mark 11:23-24, Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him."

"Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you."

With those words in mind, please invoke the powerful name of Jesus in times of need or when encountering difficulty. Also pray to Our Lady by requesting her intercession before the throne of God to obtain graces of mercy and for an era of peace.

Pray for God's angelic protection to enfold humanity and the church. Angels are here to guide and protect us if we call out for their assistance, especially when encountering the storms of time. I would suggest reciting daily the intercessory Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel.

Whatever obstacle or predicament you're having today or might face in the future, release it to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Through daily prayer, request our Lord to take control of your life and to help guide you on the pathway to His divine protection and peace. Ask God to change circumstances into your favor.  By praying daily, you will experience God's love and peace through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Trust in God and wait for His timing for positive changes to take hold in your lives and throughout our world.

May God the Father through His son, Jesus Christ, bless you with divine favor and peace.

In 2009, after receiving the locution from Jesus, I shared the news with my spiritual director, Father Richard Tartaglia of St. Mary's Church, Denville, NJ.

However, on June 5, 2010, Jesus reminded me through prayerful contemplation to again convey the importance of the message to humanity.

Saint Michael the Archangel Prayer

Photograph by Loci B. Lenar

News Story by Loci B. Lenar

Saint Michael the Archangel is recognized for being the guardian and protector of God's church and people.  While traveling through the town of Netcong on September 14, 2009, I stopped into The Church of St. Michael to say a prayer and took some photographs of the beautiful display of stained glass windows.  The Catholic church is located in Morris County, New Jersey.

Perhaps the most remarkable photograph is of Saint Michael with stained glass behind the statue which gives the appearance of being a window.  In order to capture the rainbow colors seen on the stained glass behind the statue, I photographed the image without using a flash even though indoor lighting was dim.  The only inflowing light was from some church windows nearby - best described as faint.  Perhaps inflowing light from Our Lord caused the rainbow effect.  Whatever the case, it is an interesting phenomena.

If you examine the photograph closely, it appears as if Saint Michael is creating a trail of rainbow colors as he lands on top and crushes the head of the serpent.  Furthermore, I did not observe any indoor lighting that might create such an effect, since church lights were turned off.

The Lord indeed works in mysterious ways.

The following biblical prophecy is noted in Daniel 12:1, 3-4: "At that time there shall arise Michael, the great prince, guardian of your people; It shall be a time unsurpassed in distress since nations began until that time. But the wise shall shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament, And those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever. As for you Daniel, keep secret the message and seal the book until the end time; many shall fall away and evil shall increase."

In Revelation 12:7 and 8 the following is stated:  Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.

The following excerpt regarding prayers to Saint Michael is found in the Wikipedia Encyclopedia:

The Prayer to Saint Michael is a prayer, used mainly by Catholics, which is addressed to Michael the Archangel.

Pope Leo XIII added it in 1886 to the Leonine Prayers, which he had directed to be said after Low Mass two years earlier. The practice of reciting these prayers after Mass was suppressed in 1964. However, Pope John Paul II referred to the St. Michael prayer in his Regina Coeli address of 24 April 1994 as follows:

"May prayer strengthen us for the spiritual battle that the Letter to the Ephesians speaks of: 'Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might' (Ephesians 6:10). The Book of Revelation refers to this same battle, recalling before our eyes the image of St Michael the Archangel (cf. Revelation 12:7). Pope Leo XIII certainly had this picture in mind when, at the end of the last century, he brought in, throughout the Church, a special prayer to St Michael: 'Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil...' Although this prayer is no longer recited at the end of Mass, I ask everyone not to forget it and to recite it to obtain help in the battle against the forces of darkness and against the spirit of this world."

Regarding prayers to angels, Revelation 8:3-4 says, Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a gold censer. He was given a great quantity of incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the holy ones, on the gold altar that was before the throne. The smoke of the incense along with the prayers of the holy ones went up before God from the hand of the angel.

Angels do indeed intercede before the throne of God on behalf of all who pray for God's assistance.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle,
be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou,

by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Please Note - The following addendum is added to my original testimony:

After the photograph was taken, I shared the image directly as captured on the camera's digital memory card with my spiritual advisor, Father Richard Tartaglia of Saint Mary's Church, Denville, NJ. The original digital image was transferred onto a CD for church archives.  About a week after photographing the statue, I handed a copy of the CD to the youth minister at The Church of Saint Michael for parish records.
