Divine Mercy Sunday

DIVINE MERCY by Stephen B Whatley | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

By Stephen B. Whatley

Today, Sunday, April 7, 2013, is the Feast Day of Divine Mercy, which always falls on the first Sunday after Easter.

In one of His many miraculous visitations with the Polish nun Sister Faustina (1905-1938) - now Saint Faustina - Jesus asked her to tell the world that, "the very depths of my Mercy will be opened on that day. I will pour out a sea of graces upon those souls that will approach the fount of My Mercy on this day....let no soul fear to come to Me, even if its sins be scarlet..."

In February 1931, Jesus had appeared to Faustina and asked her to have an image painted as He appeared before her - with his hand held up in blessing; the other hand on his breast, from which flowed two rays: the pale symbolising the water, which cleanses and purifies the soul. The red representing the blood which gives new life to the soul. Jesus said " These rays will shield the soul before the justice of my Father..."

He asked that the painting be inscribed with the words, Jezu Ufam Tobie (Polish) - meaning Jesus I Trust in You.

Since February 2002 I have felt compelled to paint and draw my own interpretation of this Divine Mercy image, according to the instructions given by Jesus - each time hoping to reveal this message ever more powerfully - often on Divine Mercy Sunday. Yesterday , in prayer, I felt a 'divine push' to create in order to show today - keeping all those most suffering in my heart and with hope for world peace.

Love Christ and your life will change: Jesus I Trust in You.

Peace and Healings on this day.

Indian Film 'Christaayan' breaks ground

News from RomeReports.com

It's a country that's known for its 'Bollywood' films, but most recently Indian producers broke ground with a different kind of genre-a movie about Jesus. It's titled 'Christaayan' which translates to the 'The Path of Christ.' The Hindi film is more than six hours long, but a shorter 53 minute version has been released as well.

More than 19 million Catholics live in India. The high number though, only accounts for about 4 percent of the country's population. Producers are hoping that films like these, will give an extra push to the New Evangelization, especially in countries with a Christian minority.

Good Friday: The Agony of Mary

Good Friday: The Agony of Mary by Stephen B. Whatley

The following excerpt is from the website of Stephen B Whatley | Flickr.com

In this 'drawing from prayer' - created on Good Friday (2011) - expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley wanted to recognize the inevitable cries of despair and grief of Mary, Mother of God, at the foot of the Cross upon which her son, Jesus was crucified, over 2000 years ago. Divinely chosen to carry the Son of God, she would have no doubt been as deeply bereft as any devoted mother losing her child in such a brutal way.

Christians believe the day is "good" because the message of Easter is of Christ's victory over sin, death, and the devil; as the Apostle Paul wrote: "Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us."

Certainly it is day for reflection, for mourning. Those who love will one day grieve: the price we pay for love is grief.

Friday may be of darkness, but Sunday - Easter - will bring the light of the Resurrection of Christ.

Wounded Cop Saw Vision of Jesus

News excerpt from UTSanDiego.com

By Dana Littlefield

EL CAJON — In the minutes after a sheriff’s detective was seriously injured in a shootout with a child molestation suspect last year, he began to accept that he might not make it out alive. And then a miracle happened — he said he saw Jesus Christ.

Detective Ali Perez had just kicked in the door of a Lakeside apartment where he and others had gone to contact the suspect, when a bullet tore through his left arm. Moments later, the detective was shot in his torso, just below his chest.

Lying on his back on the floor, Perez said he was out of bullets and losing blood quickly, while the suspect — Daniel Robert Witczak — was still able to move around the apartment, armed with a high-powered rifle.

And that’s when it happened.

“I saw my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Perez testified, adding that Jesus appeared to be seated in a chair between himself and the shooter.

THE ROSARY CHAPLET OF OUR LADY'S TEARS

YouTube Video on Praying the Chaplet

The following excerpt regarding the origin of the chaplet is from CatholicTradition.com:

Next to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus there is nothing more touching and effective than the tears of our heavenly Mother! How many tears she shed on the Way of the Cross and when she stood beneath the Cross! She shed bitter tears in reparation for the many insults her Divine Son then and which He would receive in the future. She wept bitter tears for the many souls who would not submit to the Commandments of God, and so would be lost forever.

This rosary or chaplet was revealed in 1929 and 1930 by Our Lord and His most holy Mother to Sister Amalia in Campina, Brazil, and was confirmed as supernatural by Bishop Campos Baretto.

Our Lords words to Sister Amalia on November 8, 1929 were:

"My daughter, whatever I am asked through the tears of My Mother, I shall give lovingly."

On March 8, 1930 the most Pure Mother stated:

"Through this rosary the devil will be subdued and the power of Hell will be destroyed. Prepare yourself for this great combat."

The sorrows used for meditation are also known as the seven sorrows of Mary
  • the prophecy of Simeon;
  • the flight into Egypt;
  • the loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple;
  • the meeting of Mary and Jesus as he carried His Cross;
  • the Crucifixion; the striking of Jesus with the lance;
  • Mary receiving the body of Jesus in her arms; and
  • the Body of Jesus being placed in the tomb.

Florida women frighten off intruder by chanting ‘Jesus’

Jesus - Photo by Loci B. Lenar

Excerpt from The Sideshow - Yahoo! News

By Eric Pfeiffer

If you ask the 15 women inside Jacquie Hagler’s house what happened, they’ll tell you it’s simple: Jesus scared a would-be thief out of the Florida woman’s home.

At first, those gathered at Hagler’s house for a jewelry party thought the intruder was part of an elaborate gag, using a “water gun” to tease the Florida women.

"It's only a water gun," one attendee reportedly said, while brushing away the firearm allegedly brandished by Derick Lee, who allegedly entered the home wearing a ski cap and bandana across his face.

Witnesses say Lee then held the gun to the woman’s head and announced, "I'm not joking, I'm going to shoot someone, give me your money." He even showed the women some of the bullets loaded into his gun before they could be convinced the robbery attempt was real.

What Lee didn’t know was that, spiritually speaking, he was outgunned by the jewelry party attendees.

"When I realized what was going on, I stood up and said, 'In the name of Jesus, get out of my house now,'” Hagler told WJXT-TV. "And he said, 'I'm going to shoot someone.' And I said it again, real boldly," Hagler continued. "Everybody started chanting, 'Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,' and he did a quick scan of the room and ran out the door as fast as he could go."

The Medjugorje Web - Apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Medjugorje

December 25, 2012 Message to Marija Pavlovic

"
Our Lady came with little Jesus in her arms and She did not give a message, but little Jesus began to speak and said : 'I am your peace, live my commandments.' With a sign of the cross, Our Lady and little Jesus blessed us together."

December 25, 2012 Annual Apparition Message to Jakov Colo

"Dear children, give the gift of your life to me and completely surrender to me so that I may help you to comprehend my motherly love and the love of my Son for you. My children, I love you immeasurably and today, in a special way, on the day of the birth of my Son, I desire to receive each of you into my heart and to give a gift of your lives to my Son. My children, Jesus loves you and gives you the grace to live in His mercy, but sin has overtaken many of your hearts and you live in darkness. Therefore, my children, do not wait, say ‘no’ to sin and surrender your hearts to my Son, because only in this way will you be able to live God’s mercy and, with Jesus in your hearts, set out on the way of salvation."

A Muslim's Search for Meaning Leads to Christ

CBN TV - Video

The following excerpt is from CBN.com:

Antonio Santana found meaning in Islam, but he didn't find salvation until he met Jesus.

He started having dreams. “I dreamt that I was swimming in a big ocean all by myself and there was a figure in the background sitting on a rock. He was fishing for me. I didn’t know who that figure was because I couldn’t categorize Him at that moment as Jesus Christ, but I had an impression that was Jesus. I was trying to make sense of it. At the same time I couldn’t explain it.”

Katie Souza: God's Love Found in Lockdown

CBN TV - Video

The following excerpt is from CBN.com:

This salvation story proves that God can find a lost soul anywhere... even in solitary confinement.

Katie Souza says,“I remember slumping back against that cold cement wall, thinking, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ I had been fighting everybody out on the streets, and now I’m fighting everybody inside. I didn’t even realize I was fighting God Himself. Right then, the Lord spoke to me. ‘I want you to surrender to your captivity, because this is My plan and it’s perfect.’”

Katie prayed to become a Christian. She read the Bible and shared what she was learning with her fellow inmates.

“The only book in the whole place was the Bible. I remember picking it up, reading through it and I just thought that this is the coolest thing I’ve ever read in my life. This is amazing. I would go from the front to the back over and over again. As I did that, the Holy Spirit began to point out these Scriptures about these people called the ancient Israelites who went to prison. I was going, ‘Wow, this is my story. It’s the story of every con I’d ever known. I started getting excited about it, and I started teaching it to everyone that I could teach it to.”

Her tough girl attitude and reputation began to change.

Pray for Christian Unity and Healing of Divisions

Prince of Peace - Photo by Loci B. Lenar

By Loci B. Lenar

Through prayerful discernment, Our Lord Jesus is calling everyone to pray for Christian unity and healing between religious denominations by reconciling differences. This goal will be accomplished with the power of prayer and through the Holy Spirit.

"Thus the word of the Lord came to me: Son of man, listen to the house of Israel saying, 'The vision he sees is a long way off; he prophesies of the distant future!' Say to them therefore: Thus says the Lord God; None of my words shall be delayed any longer; whatever I speak is final, and it shall be done, says the Lord God."  Ezekiel 12:26-28

Supporters Claim Miracle Led to Child's Survival

The following excerpt is from The Compass News:

By Steve Wideman

APPLETON — As surgeons prepared to connect Alejandra Anacieto Gregorio to a maze of life-sustaining tubes and wires, one pair of gloved hands gently removed a child's rosary from around her neck, carefully avoiding a life-threatening lesion the size of a softball covering half the 14-year-old girl's face.

The rosary, its pink leather cord holding a brightly painted medallion of the Blessed Virgin, was then wrapped several times around Alejandra's wrist.

Over the next eight hours, as a medical team at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee successfully removed the lesion from her face.

Alejandra, unaware the rosary was now on her wrist, would dream twice of meeting Jesus.

Leticia Santiago Geniesse of Appleton purchased the rosary for Alejandra months earlier during a visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe near Mexico City. The shrine marks the spot where the Virgin Mary appeared to peasant Juan Diego in 1531.

"Mexicans are very devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe. And Alejandra is a girl of huge faith," Leticia said.
Leticia believes the visit to the basilica, and a Feb. 18, 2012, visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, Wisconsin, produced a medical miracle for Alejandra.

"There is no doubt in my mind God intervened when all the doors seemed closed to getting help for Alejandra. There is no doubt it was a miracle," Leticia said.

Alejandra, the lesion now all but invisible, expects to reunite in two weeks with her parents and nine siblings in their remote home in the Mexican village of Citlaltepec.

"Our Lady of Guadalupe helps everyone during the most difficult moments," Alejandra said six weeks after the surgery. Without the procedure, physicians had given her a year to live.

During her eight-plus hours on the operating table, Alejandra told Leticia she dreamed twice of seeing Jesus.

"In her first dream, Jesus was standing in front of her home under a tree. She heard birds singing and said everything looked so beautiful. She saw his image but didn't know who he was right away. He said 'Don't worry. Don't be afraid. I will take care of you,'" Leticia said. "As she told me of her dream her face was so beautiful. She was looking up like she wasn't really there. I don't know how to explain it."

In her second dream, Alejandra was joined by her siblings and parents inside her Citlaltepec home.

"She said everyone was very happy," Leticia said. "Alejandra was hiding behind her mom when her mom took her hand and said 'Alejandra. Come see this. This is the Almighty.' There was so much light behind the image, then he opened his arms and she wasn't afraid anymore."

Peace of Divine Mercy

Peace of Divine Mercy by Stephen B Whatley

Peace of Divine Mercy 2012 by Stephen B Whatley | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

By Stephen B. Whatley

Today, Sunday April 15, 2012, is the Feast Day of The Divine Mercy. After attending a beautiful Mass celebrating this special Sunday and Catholic devotion at the Roman Catholic Church of St Ignatius in North London, I felt what I call a 'divine push' to pay tribute to the Divine Mercy; with this drawing created today in prayer. I have felt compelled to paint several expressions of this devotion since 2002 ( all to be viewed in my "Christian Set" with a detailed history beneath the images) - which originates from miraculous instructions in the 1930s from Christ to a Polish nun, Sister Faustina (1905-1938); canonised in 2000 by Pope John Paul II.

Peace to all Christians and agnostics alike.

Buddhist attributes cancer healing to Jesus

Allan Huang with husband

Buddhist attributes cancer healing to Jesus | UCAN India

No trace of cancer was found in Allan Huang after her visit to Marian shrine at Vellankanni in Tamil Nadu.

The photograph and following excerpt can be read on UCNA India:

Kolkata: A Chinese Buddhist woman has attributed miraculous healing from cancer to her devotion to Divine Mercy.

Giving witness, Allan Huang said this at the feast of the Divine Mercy at Auxilium Church in Kolkata yesterday.

“In December 2007, I was diagnosed for Lymphoma and after prolonged treatment I was well again. But in October last year when I had a relapse my daughter Juliana gave me a picture of the Divine Mercy to pray,” said Huang standing before a large picture of Jesus the Divine Mercy venerated in the church.

Revealing the secret of her courage, Huang said that she did not loose hope during the four cycles of chemotherapy in Apollo Hospital, Kolkata.

“It was the love, care and prayers of my family, priests and so many good people that brought the healing,” she said after placing a bouquet of 50 red roses in thanksgiving.

She was accompanied by her husband Patrick, three sisters, children, five grand children.

Seven priests and some 500 faithful participated at the solemn afternoon Eucharist marking the Divine Mercy Sunday celebrations and also thanksgiving for the miraculous cure.

Narrating the incident of her miraculous cure during the prayer, parish priest Fr. K.K. Sebastian said, “when doctors refused Allan permission to travel with her son Dominic to Seoul (South Korea) to meet his in-laws, she went with her another son Stephen to the historic Marian shrine at Vellankanni in Tamilnadu last month.”

During a routine test after her pilgrimage to Vellankanni, the doctors who treated her at Apollo were amazed to see the test results which showed no trace of cancer, he said.

The Divine Mercy image is a depiction of Jesus based on the devotion initiated by Polish saint Sister Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) of the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy.

Feast of Divine Mercy is Celebrated on Sunday, April 15

Jezu Ufam Tobie by Stephen B Whatley

Divine Mercy Sunday - Saint Micheal Center

The following excerpt regarding the Feast of Divine Mercy is from the Saint Michael Center:

The Importance of the Feast of Mercy

The first revelation of Jesus in His message of Divine Mercy to St. Faustina on 22nd February 1931 was to say how much He desired mankind to avail of the infinite mercy of God on earth and this was why He was establishing the Feast of His Mercy. So, the Feast of Mercy was the first revelation in the message of Divine Mercy and is considered the first and most important element of the whole devotion.

Jesus devoted fourteen revelations in all, more than He devoted to any other element of this devotion because of the importance of the extraordinary graces He desired to give to all souls on this holy day.
In fact, He attached such importance to the Feast of Mercy that in the 43rd revelation, He stated, “I desire that My mercy be worshiped, and I am giving mankind the last hope of salvation; that is, recourse to My mercy. My Heart rejoices in this Feast”. (Diary 998)

First Sunday After Easter

Jesus said it was to be celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. The selection of this day was to indicate that Jesus shows a special close connection between the paschal mystery of our redemption, and the Feast of Mercy and it is partly designed so that we contemplate, on this day, the mystery of our Redemption as the greatest act of Divine Mercy toward mankind.

Saint Faustina also noted this, when in 1935 she wrote: "I see now that the work of Redemption is bound up with this work of Divine Mercy that the Lord desires". (Diary 89)

A Second Baptism

Jesus said, "The soul that will go to confession in preparation for this day and receive Holy Communion on the day, shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment" (Diary 699) What exactly does this mean? Canon Rozycki, who was appointed by the Pope John Paul II to analyse the promises of Our Lord in the revelations of Divine Mercy states, “The extraordinary grace promised by Jesus in connection with the Feast of Mercy is something greater by far than a plenary indulgence. A plenary indulgence consists only in the forgiveness of temporal punishment due to sins already forgiven; it is never the forgiveness of sins themselves”.

He also went on to say, “The remarkable grace promised by our Lord on the Feast of Mercy is the same as a second Baptism. Now the Sacramental grace of Baptism if received by an adult, is not only the removal of original sin from their soul, but also the removal of all personal sins committed since birth, and any punishment due to them”.

So the soul who receives this special grace on the Feast of Mercy is the same as an adult who is baptised for the first time and receives the grace of having their soul cleansed through the sacrament of Baptism.

Shadow at Ursuline chapel is a sign of faith to many

Photo by Eliot Kamenitz - The Times-Picayune

Shadow at Ursuline chapel is a sign of faith to many | NOLA.com

Photo Caption: On Monday, April 2, 2012 more than 2,000 pilgrims have come to the Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor at Ursuline Academy (New Orleans, LA) since late last week to see an unusual image projected on a pillar near the shrine’s altar. Many see the image as the face of Jesus bearing a crown of thorns. Although it is pretty clearly a shadow cast by an overhead chandelier, it seems to have escaped public notice until now. Miraculous or not, many say the image helps them focus their prayers at the threshold of Holy Week, the most solemn week of the Christian year.
